In this monthly feature, we pick a different Alberta brewery that we carry in-store to highlight their incredible brews being made close to home!
Our December Ale-berta feature is Eighty Eight Brewing, based in Calgary, Alberta. They’re named for the year 1988, when the Olympics were showcasing Calgary on the world stage, and pay homage to that year through their neon branding and pop star Tiffany. The brewery opened in August 2018 and in the spirit of Calgary ‘88, continues to celebrate diversity and inclusivity while showcasing their city — while drinking great beer, of course.

They aim to have no pretense with their beer — just good times — and foster an inclusive and welcoming community. Beer for everyone, to be enjoyed with anyone. They partner with community organizations like Sled Island Music Festival, Calgary Underground Film Festival and Calgary Queer Arts society, as well as sponsoring local Calgary Olympic athletes at the Beijing winter games.
Here are the beers we currently have in stock from Eighty Eight brewing:
Hi-Fi Hazy IPA
Hi-Fi is a Hazy IPA designed for good vibrations and to keep the party at the perfect volume all night long. Aromas of tropical and stone fruits, red berries, slight breadiness, citrus and floral notes. Fruity, semi-sweet flavours with loads of fresh fruit and berries, with slight malt/bread notes. It’s soft, smooth and sweet with very little bitterness, and low carbonation to let that mouthfeel show.
Good Morning Vietnamese Coffee Stout
Strong aromas of roasted coffee and chocolate with wood on the back end. Sweet but balanced. Moderate to strong bitterness from heavy hop additions and roasted coffee. It has aromas of coffee, chocolate and brown sugar, with semi-sweet flavours of coffee and chocolate as well and a creamy mouthfeel with medium body and carbonation.
Visit us in-store to purchase these beers, or watch for them to sample their brews at an upcoming floor pour!
